Become a Certified Yoga Instructor Course in Bali

A certified yoga instructor course is a structured training program that qualifies graduates to teach yoga professionally, delivered by a school registered with Yoga Alliance. Yoga teacher training in Bali covers asana, anatomy, teaching methodology, philosophy, and pranayama across 200 contact hours. House of Om is a Yoga Alliance registered school in Ubud, Bali, running 20-day residential programs from $2,125.

Ubud sits at the cultural center of Bali’s yoga scene, and a large share of the island’s teacher trainings run here. The setting matters: Balinese Hindu practice is part of daily life rather than a backdrop, which gives yogic philosophy a lived context that a studio can’t manufacture.

House of Om runs 20-day residential trainings at three Ubud venues. This guide covers what the certification involves, what it costs, and how to decide whether it’s the right step.

What Is a Certified Yoga Instructor Course?

A certified yoga instructor course is a structured training program that teaches you how to guide others through safe and effective yoga practice. The international standard is set by Yoga Alliance, the world’s largest nonprofit organization for the yoga community. Programs registered with Yoga Alliance must meet minimum requirements for curriculum hours, faculty credentials, and content areas.

One distinction that trips people up: the school holds the RYS registration; you hold the RYT registration, and you apply for it yourself after graduating, for a separate annual fee paid to Yoga Alliance.

The most common entry-level certification is the 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) credential. Upon earning this, you are eligible to teach yoga professionally in studios, retreats, corporate settings, and online platforms around the world.

Core Subject Areas in a 200-Hour Program

Category What you learn Required hours
Techniques, Training and Practice Asana, pranayama, meditation, subtle body 75
Anatomy and Physiology Safe alignment, biomechanics, contraindications 30
Yoga Humanities History, philosophy, classical texts, ethics 30
Professional Essentials Teaching methodology, practicum, professional development 50
School’s allocation Distributed across the four categories above 15

These are the standards Yoga Alliance introduced in 2020. If a school’s published syllabus gives eight hours to anatomy, either there are unlisted hours elsewhere or it isn’t meeting the standard. Ask.

Why Choose Bali for Yoga Teacher Training?

Bali is not just a beautiful backdrop. The island carries a living spiritual tradition rooted in Hinduism that shapes daily life, from offerings placed at dawn to temple ceremonies held throughout the year. For yoga students, this environment provides a depth of context that is simply not available in a conventional studio setting.

The surrounding rice terraces, jungle canopy, and ancient temples create an atmosphere.

Ubud has the island’s highest concentration of yoga schools and teachers, which is why most Bali trainings are based there or nearby.

  • Cultural depth: Balinese spirituality adds living context to yoga philosophy.
  • Expert faculty: Bali attracts experienced instructors from India, Europe, Australia, and beyond.
  • Community: Immersive training with a cohort of like-minded students accelerates learning.
  • Value: Comparable quality costs significantly less than programs in Western markets.
  • Setting: Nature, silence, and sacred sites support the inner dimensions of practice.

How to Choose the Right Yoga Teacher Training Program

With dozens of schools operating across the island, knowing how to choose a yoga teacher training that fits your goals is essential. The wrong program can leave you underprepared. The right one sets the foundation for an entire teaching career.

Key Factors to Evaluate

  • Yoga Alliance registration: Confirm the school is a Registered Yoga School (RYS). This matters for insurance, studio hiring, and international recognition.
  • Class size: Ask for the cap in writing. Cohort size determines how much individual feedback you get during practicum, which is the part that actually makes you a teacher. House of Om caps its Pelaga courses at 20 students.
  • Faculty credentials: Yoga Alliance requires every RYS 200 Lead Trainer to hold the E-RYT 500 credential. Ask for the lead trainer’s name and verify it directly in the Yoga Alliance directory. If a school won’t name its lead trainer before you book, treat that as an answer.
  • Curriculum balance: Look for programs that cover philosophy and anatomy, not just asana. A strong teacher understands the full system of yoga.
  • Post-training resources: Some schools include lifetime access to online materials or alumni communities. House of Om includes lifetime access to its online library when you pay tuition in full.
  • Accommodation and meals: Included lodging and food reduce logistics stress and keep you focused on learning.
  • Graduate support: Some schools offer post-certification mentorship, job placement support, or alumni communities.
  • Public school rating: Yoga Alliance publishes an Overall School Rating for every registered school, fed by reviews each graduate must submit before completing their own registration. That’s harder to curate than testimonials on a school’s own site. House of Om’s is 4.66 out of 5.

Take time to read graduate reviews and, where possible, speak with alumni before booking. Genuine testimonials from past students reveal what a school’s marketing materials cannot.

How Much Does Yoga Teacher Training Cost?

Understanding how much a yoga teacher training costs helps you plan a realistic budget. Pricing varies widely depending on location, duration, accommodation type, and what the program includes.

Typical Price Ranges for 200-Hour YTT in Bali (2025 to 2026)

Price (USD) Includes
House of Om, Bali 200-hour $2,125 – $3,315 20 nights, meals on training days, all sessions, equipment, materials
House of Om, Bali 200-hour Hybrid $1,500 – $2,470 9 nights, 10 days in person, plus online modules
House of Om, 200-hour Online $490 – $700 Self-paced, lifetime access

Budget separately for flights, travel insurance, the Bali tourist levy (IDR 150,000, about $10, paid at lovebali.baliprov.go.id), your visa on arrival (around IDR 500,000), and your Yoga Alliance registration fee, which you pay to Yoga Alliance after graduating rather than to the school.

A $500 deposit holds a place, and date changes are free.

Most programs in Ubud fall in the mid-range tier. Prices typically include tuition, accommodation, daily meals, and course materials. Items such as flights, travel insurance, visa fees, and personal expenses are almost always separate. Always confirm what is included before paying a deposit.

Comparable programs in Europe or North America commonly cost $3,000–$6,000 for tuition alone, usually without accommodation. Bali’s all-inclusive format is why the total often works out lower even after flights.

Inside the House of Om Certified Yoga Instructor Course

Nestled in the heart of Ubud, House of Om draws students who want more than a certificate. House of Om runs three Ubud venues: The Mansion in the town center, Melati a short walk from it, and Amertham, a secluded jungle site above a river gorge.

What the Curriculum Covers

  • Morning and evening asana practice spanning Hatha, Vinyasa, and Ashtanga
  • Pranayama techniques and their physiological effects
  • Yoga philosophy: Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the eight limbs, and classical texts
  • Functional anatomy and biomechanics for safe, injury-free teaching
  • Teaching methodology including verbal cueing, sequencing, and hands-on assists
  • Meditation and mindfulness practices integrated throughout the program
  • Teaching practicums with structured peer feedback
  • Shatkarma, mantra and kirtan, Yoga Nidra, Ayurveda, and sound healing
  • Voice Activation: projection, pacing, and developing a teaching voice

Teachers are named on each program page, so you can see who’s leading your intake before you book.

Beyond the mat, the community side of the training includes heart circles, chanting, and evening gatherings. These experiences are part of what makes the certified yoga instructor course at House of Om distinct from a classroom-based program.

The 20 days are organized by style: Hatha foundations in week one, Vinyasa in week two, introduction to Ashtanga and teaching methodology in week three, followed by practical and theoretical exams.

Who Is This Program For?

  • Wellness professionals wanting to integrate yoga into their services
  • Individuals seeking a meaningful career change
  • Complete beginners — House of Om welcomes all levels, though at least 6 months of regular practice is preferred
  • Practitioners who want to deepen their own practice, with no plan to teach
  • Wellness professionals integrating yoga into existing services
  • Anyone seeking a career change
  • Experienced practitioners wanting an RYT 200 credential to teach internationally

Verified Reviews

House of Om holds a 4.66 out of 5 rating on the Yoga Alliance directory, based on reviews submitted by registered graduates. Yoga Alliance requires every graduate to submit a review before completing their own RYT registration, which makes the directory rating harder to curate than testimonials on a school’s own website.

After Certification: Your Path as a Yoga Teacher

Earning your certified yoga instructor credential is the beginning, not the end. Once registered with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 200, you are qualified to teach yoga professionally in most countries. From that point.

Common Career Paths After a 200-Hour Course

  •       Lead group classes at yoga studios, gyms, and wellness centers
  •       Teach corporate wellness programs for companies and organizations
  •       Host your own retreats or workshops, domestically or internationally
  •       Offer private sessions for individuals or small groups
  •       Build an online teaching practice through platforms or your own site
  •       Pursue advanced training at the 300-hour or 500-hour level

Yoga Alliance registration also gives you access to continuing education requirements, professional liability insurance options, and a searchable directory that connects prospective students with your profile. Yoga Alliance registration also gives you access to continuing education pathways, professional liability insurance options, and a public directory listing that prospective students can find.

Most new teachers start with cover classes and off-peak slots and build from there. Full-time studio work is uncommon in the first year. Many combine studio classes, private clients, and corporate or community sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior teaching experience to enroll in a certified yoga instructor course?

No. The course builds your teaching skills from the ground up, and House of Om welcomes complete beginners as well as experienced practitioners.

How long does a yoga teacher training program in Bali typically take?

House of Om’s Bali 200-hour runs 20 days as a residential intensive. The hybrid format is 10 days in person plus self-paced online study, which suits anyone who can’t take a full month off.

Is Yoga Alliance registration recognized internationally?

Yes. Yoga Alliance registration is the most widely recognized credential in the global yoga industry. Graduating from a Registered Yoga School and registering as an RYT 200 allows you to teach professionally in studios, retreat centers, and wellness settings around the world.

What is included in the cost of yoga teacher training at House of Om?

Bali 200-hour programs include 20 nights’ accommodation, meals on training days, all teaching sessions, equipment, and learning materials. Paying tuition in full adds lifetime access to the online 200-hour library. See the programs page for current pricing by room type.

Can I teach yoga immediately after completing a 200-hour certification?

Yes, once you’ve completed the course and registered with Yoga Alliance. Most new teachers start with community classes, workshops, or private clients while building experience.

Do I have to register with Yoga Alliance after graduating?

No — registration is voluntary and carries an annual fee paid to Yoga Alliance, not the school. Yoga Alliance is a registry rather than a licensing body, so you can legally teach without it in most places. Many studios and insurers ask for it, so most new teachers register at least initially.

House of Om runs 20-day trainings at three Ubud venues, with intakes through 2027. If you’re weighing it up, the free 1:1 call is the most useful next step — it costs nothing and you’ll get straight answers about whether the timing suits you.

Students who do not begin the course within this period will be required to pay a $90 Study Group Allocation Fee before joining a study group.

3. Study Group Policy

200-Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training

Study Group Allocation

Students who select “Start as soon as possible” during enrollment will be assigned to the next available study group based on their preferred time zone and availability.

House of Om offers multiple study groups across different time zones to accommodate students worldwide.

Students who are not ready to begin should select “Do not want to start yet” during enrollment or notify Student Support before study group allocation.

Study groups are generally allocated within 2–4 weeks, although this may vary depending on teacher availability and the formation of suitable groups.

Guided Study Group

The 200-Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training is delivered through guided study groups led by an assigned teacher. Each study group is designed to be completed over approximately
4 months, consisting of:

  • Approximately 3 months of live Zoom sessions.
  • Up to 1 additional month for homework review, teacher feedback, and final assessments.

Students are expected to complete all mandatory homework assignments, attend the required live Zoom sessions, and submit their final assessments during the study group period.

Students who do not complete these requirements within their assigned study group and wish to continue receiving teacher guidance must join a new study group.

A $90 Study Group Reassignment Fee applies when a student:

  • does not complete the required coursework within their assigned study group and wishes to continue with a new study group;
  • requests a different teacher;
  • requests reassignment to a study group in a different time zone after allocation; or
  • requests a change to their Zoom schedule after the first live Zoom session.

Requests made before the first live Zoom session will be accommodated free of charge, subject to availability.

Students who need to pause their studies due to medical reasons may rejoin a future study group without paying the reassignment fee. A valid medical certificate is required.

300-Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training

The 300-Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training operates with an ongoing live study group rather than fixed cohorts.

Unlike the 200-Hour Online Yoga Teacher Training, students are not assigned to a fixed study group or teacher, and the Study Group Reassignment Policy does not apply.

Students may attend live Zoom sessions according to their availability. To be eligible for graduation, students must complete a minimum of 45 hours of live Zoom training, including the required teaching practice hours outlined in the course curriculum.

Once a student confirms they are ready to begin and is activated in the live study group, they have 12 months to complete all graduation requirements and qualify for certification.

Students who are unable to complete all graduation requirements within this period may purchase a 6-month Course Completion Extension for an additional $90.

Students are responsible for attending the required live training hours and successfully completing all graduation requirements within the applicable course completion deadline.
